ACORN* is the newest Web service to be made available to Charter Oak State College students and faculty. It can be accessed at https://acorn.charteroak.edu or by clicking the login button on our main web site.
You can complete the following activities on the ACORN web portal:
  • Search our course catalog and register for courses
  • View grades, unofficial transcripts and course schedules
  • View your statement and pay your fees*Access Charter Oak Records Now

All students are given an '@charteroak.edu' account when they matriculate, take a course or request and account. This account becomes the official communication channel between you and Charter Oak State College faculty and staff. The following videos have been created to help you use your Charter Oak State College email account (Videos include sound):


Blackboard - Online Course System

Blackboard is the system Charter Oak State College uses to deliver your online courses. It allows students to communicate with faculty and each other, to submit assignments, take tests and gather learning materials - everything needed to create a successful online learning environment.
 
Students often comment on how easy the system is to use but if you need some tips please view the videos below (Videos include sound):

Help Desk

Charter Oak State College participates in a collaborative Help Desk between a number of other colleges and universities. The Help Desk is administered by the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium (CTDLC).
The Help Desk hours (EST) are:
  • 8am-10pm Monday - Thursday
  • 8am-8pm Friday
  • 8am-5pm Saturday
  • 10am-8pm Sunday
You can contact the Help Desk through the following methods:
The Help Desk can help you with the following:
  • Blackboard - logging into (including password resets) and using the system
  • Webmail - logging into (including password resets) and the basics of using the system
  • ACORN - They will be able to assist you with logging in any problems will be escalated to our application support personnel for resolution during normal COSC business hours.


Important Policies

  • Please review our Withdrawal Policy. Students who want to withdraw from a course after the end of day 1, must complete and submit to the Distance Learning Office the official withdrawal form.
  • The refund policy can be found in the Course Schedule.
  • Students are expected to know the College’s Distance Learning policies and procedures found in the Fall Course Schedule.
  • Students with Disabilities - Charter Oak State College recognizes the special needs of students with disabilities. The College will make every effort to accomodate the requirements of students with documented disabilities. Prior to Registering

  • Syllabi - If you would like to preview your syllabus please go to: www.charteroak.edu/syllabus
  • Payment - Students are expected to make payment for their courses before they are enrolled into courses.
  • Fall Semester Dates
  • Charter Oak assesses a late registration fee 10 days before the start of a term. Please be sure to register before this date so you can avoid the additional fee.
  • The last day to add/drop classes is 11:59pm (EST) on the first day of class.

Before your Class Begins

  • Books - Students must have their course materials prior to the first day of the course. Most materials can be ordered at Charter Oak's Bookstore, go to: www.charteroak.edu/bookstore
  • Blackboard - New students must take the Demonstration Course prior to beginning your course, go to: http://www.charteroak.edu/democourse
