Return of IRS Data Retrieval Tool (IRS DRT)
The IRS DRT is available for the 2018–19 FAFSA cycle.
Beginning with the 2018–19 FAFSA cycle, 2016 tax return information transferred from the IRS into fafsa.gov now has stronger security and privacy protections.
- As a result, tax information transferred from the IRS will not be visible to the applicant and will not display on the IRS DRT web page, FAFSA form, or on the Student Aid Report.
- Instead, students will see "Transferred from the IRS" in the appropriate fields of on fafsa.gov, the IRS DRT web page, and on their Student Aid Report. See below for how transferred information will be displayed:
The IRS DRT is not availablefor the 2017–18 FAFSA cycle. Students and families who need to complete the 2017–18 FAFSA form should manually enter their 2015 tax return information into the form.
In order to be considered for financial aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid available at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
