All students are given an '@charteroak.edu' account when they matriculate or take a course. This account becomes the official communication channel between you and Charter Oak State College faculty and staff. The following videos have been created to help you use your Charter Oak State College email account (Videos include sound):

Blackboard is the system Charter Oak State College uses to deliver your online courses. It allows students to communicate with faculty and each other, to submit assignments, take tests and gather learning materials - everything needed to create a successful online learning environment.   Students often comment on how easy the system is to use.

Support Center

Charter Oak State College participates in a collaborative Support Center between a number of other colleges and universities. The Support Center is administered by the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium (CTDLC). The Support Center hours (EST) are:
  • 8am-10pm Monday - Thursday
  • 8am-8pm Friday
  • 8am-5pm Saturday
  • 10am-8pm Sunday

The Support Center can help you with the following:
  • Blackboard - logging into (including password resets) and using the system
  • Webmail - logging into (including password resets) and the basics of using the system
  • ACORN - They will be able to assist you with logging in any problems will be escalated to our application support personnel for resolution during normal COSC business hours.

Important Policies

  • Please review our Withdrawal Policy. Students who want to withdraw from a course after the end of day 2, must complete and submit to the Registrar's Office the official withdrawal form. To find the withdrawal form: on the Students tab, click on the link for Course Withdrawal Request.
  • The refund policy can be found in the College catalog. Refund dates are available on the Academic Calendar.
  • Students are expected to know the College’s registration policies and procedures found in the catalog.
  • Students with Disabilities - Charter Oak State College recognizes the special needs of students with disabilities. The College will make every effort to accommodate the requirements of students with documented disabilities. Prior to Registering

  • Syllabi - If you would like to preview your syllabus please go to: www.charteroak.edu/syllabus
  • Payment - Students are expected to make payment for their courses before they are enrolled into courses.
  • The last day to drop classes is 11:59pm (EST) before the first day of classes.

Before your Class Begins

  • Books - Students must have their course materials prior to the first day of the course. Most materials can be ordered at Charter Oak's Bookstore, go to: www.charteroak.edu/bookstore
  • Blackboard - New students must take the Demonstration Course prior to beginning your course, go to: http://www.charteroak.edu/democourse

Reading Your Advising Worksheet

All students beginning their degree program after July 1, 2010 will have access to your degree plan online. If you have access to the advising tab at the top of this screen you are one of these students. The Degree Audit Portlet will allow you to see all the courses you need to complete your degree.
